Backstory
Danny was put into foster care when he was 5 years old. He doesn't remember much from before he was put into foster care, and he never really wanted to find out what landed him in foster care. Growing up Danny was what most adults in his life described as 'Difficult'. Starting fights at school, getting into arguments with teachers, breaking things at home, and running away. Because of this, he was moved around between several foster homes until he was 9 years old.
When he was 9, Danny was put into a foster home in a small town in Oregon. His foster parents the Cahills were patient with his behavior, and did everything they could do to nurture him through his behavioral issues. Danny's foster father Mr. Cahill was a teacher at the local K-8 school, and always did his best to advocate for Danny in school, and his foster mother worked at the local grocery store, always making sure to be there to pick Danny up in the afternoons. At home, both of his foster parents worked to create an environment for Danny to thrive in.
Living with the Cahills definitely improved Danny's behavioral issues. While he remained a trouble maker, he stopped getting into fights at school. When he was 14, the Cahills were able to officially adopt Danny as their own.
Danny was grateful for the Cahills, and he did care about them. But he always struggled to feel as comfortable as his peers seemed to be. Growing up he was always more of a loner, even when he did socialize, he always considered his peers more as acquaintances than friends. A way to kill his boredom.
One of the ways the Cahills helped Danny to cope with his seemingly constant state of boredom, they introduced him to every sport they could. The Cahills certainly weren't rich, but they gave Danny everything in their power. Danny was definitely an athletic kid. Skateboarding, soccer, basketball, track and field, even mountain biking.
It wasn't until Danny was a sophomore in high school that he started getting into trouble again. What started as an interest in shop class, and an apprenticeship at a local mechanic's, resulted in Danny spending a lot of time with a group of men who were into street racing. They seemed to bring absolute worst in Danny. His thrill seeking behavior was indulged and encouraged, and before he even knew it, Danny was drinking, smoking, and doing drugs.
Despite his adoptive parents being as supportive as possible, Danny's behavior started to drive a wedge between the three of them. After a particularly bad fight with his mother his senior year, Danny moved out of his parent's house and moved in with a friend of his from the mechanic's shop.
During that time, Danny's grades started to drop significantly and despite his parents begging him to move back home, he refused. Danny did manage to graduate his senior year, but by that point he wasn't really worried about school anymore. He kept his job at the mechanic's and just worked to get by. He got more heavily in with the drag racing scene in the city.
By the time Danny was 23, he already had a criminal record. Nothing too major, mostly minor possession, petty theft, and loitering charges. His record only led him to hanging around seedier and seedier crowds. Eventually he met a group of men who planned on robbing a couple of convenience stores. Lured in by the promise, and an adrenaline rush like nothing he'd ever felt, Danny joined their crew.
The group of robbers kept going for bigger and bigger targets, until they ended up hitting a bank. That's when they finally got caught. Danny was sentenced to thirty years in federal prison for armed bank robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon.
