Backstory
Thor grew up in the suburbs, with his mom, grandma, and his little sister Rosie.
After Thor graduated from high school, he started working on his EMT certification. Thor had always been interested in sports medicine, and he figured he'd be able to work his way through college and get a sports medicine degree.
Once he got his EMT certification, Thor moved to the city. But between struggling to pay his bills in the city, and working long hours and weird shifts, Thor didn't manage to get through very many classes. Despite things not actually working out the way Thor planned, he was happy with his little life. He liked his coworkers, and despite the hours, and the bills, Thor was very fulfilled by his work.
He thought that everything had fallen into place when he met Maria. A young werewolf who worked as a patrol officer. They met on the job, and from then on they were together. When they moved in together, Thor saw happily ever after when they moved in together. What Thor didn't expect was for things to start to change.
It was just little things at first. Maria had always been possessive, always had the tendency to get a little rough when she was emotional. But Thor always brushed it off. Werewolves can get overly passionate, and they're protective of their partners, he would tell himself. Of course she'd sometimes get a little too worked up.
But as the relationship went on, it got harder for Thor to brush off Maria's behavior. Jealousy morphed into full on possessiveness, and Thor started seeing friends less and less. They argued constantly, and things that wouldn't have mattered much in the past, were turning into full on screaming matches. When Maria started shoving Thor into walls and throwing things at him, he knew that he had to figure a way out.
It wasn't just as easy as picking up and leaving. Rent was expensive, and while when he moved to the city it was possible for him to afford a small apartment on a single income- it was practically impossible to find someplace that he could afford. The few friends who hadn't dropped Thor from their lives after he had started distancing himself were supportive, but that didn't mean that they could offer him a place to stay for more than a few nights.
Thor started taking on extra shifts and overtime, saving up as much money as he could while he looked for a place he could afford. Maria was angry at him for spending so much extra time out of the house, and they got into more arguments than usual. Eventually, Thor couldn't come up with enough excuses for his extra hours, and after a particularly nasty fight which ended with Thor having a black eye and swollen jaw, he decided it wasn't worth it anymore.
Without the extra shifts, Thor crashed. He was exhausted. He had been spreading himself too thin, working himself to the bone. Suddenly being forced to be at home wasn't as restful as he would have hoped. Maria was always in a bad mood, and they spoke less and less. The house became static and suffocating. One night, Thor couldn't take it anymore. He wanted to go to a bar with his friends. Maria objected, and it caused a fight, but Thor left anyway.
Thor came back late, and a little tipsy. That was the night all hell broke loose. Maria started a fight, which quickly escalated to a physical altercation. Despite Maria starting it, and Thor being bigger than her, he didn't want to hit her back. He kept trying to push her away, or get her to stop. Maria was able to get Thor into a sleeper hold, knocking him out.
When Thor woke up, he was hand cuffed to the bed, wearing nothing but boxers. He struggled, but only managed to bruise his wrists. He called to Maria, begging her to let him go, but there was no response. She must have left him tied up to go to work. The knowledge sent chills down Thor's spine. The complete disregard for his safety made him realize that things were worse than he had thought. He had to get out as soon as possible.
Maria arrived home later that evening. Thor begged her to untie him, apologizing to her, and promising to 'Behave'. Anything to get his partner to let him go. Maria did uncuff him from the bed, but cuffed his hands together instead, allowing Thor to use the bathroom and brush his teeth before forcing him back on the bed, cuffing him to the headboard again.
This went on for days. Maria would go to work, leaving Thor cuffed to the bed. And when she was home, she'd only take care of the basics, often leaving Thor starved and dehydrated. But the worst of it was the biting. She kept biting him over and over again, leaving bloody patches all over his shoulders, arms, and neck. She would go on and on about how much better their relationship would be once Thor was a werewolf. He begged her to stop, reminding her that he was up to date on his vaccinations, telling her it wouldn't work. But Maria insisted.
Thor eventually stopped fighting. It was useless. He couldn't get out of the cuffs, and he was weak from dehydration and lack of food. Maria was really only giving him a cup or two of water with a protein bar a day. Thor couldn't even tell if she was doing it intentionally to make him weaker to the Lycan virus, or if she simply couldn't be bothered to take care of him. He couldn't decide which was worse either.
The full moon was the final straw. Maria had bitten him almost every day for what felt like weeks (Thor lost count). The full moon was when the virus finally took. Thor became feverish, and delirious. He begged to be taken to the hospital, believing that he was going to die. But Maria kept him in bed.
When Thor's fever broke, Maria finally released him from the bed. Even though his fever had broke, he still felt sick. He was dizzy and nauseated. He couldn't get Maria to take him to the hospital, so he waited for her to go back to work, after the week of the full moon ended. He found his phone hidden in a drawer and called his sister to come and get him. His sister came immediately and helped Thor pack his things before driving him to the hospital.
It was a long recovery for Thor. Not just physically, but emotionally as well. The physicians were able to treat Thor for the infected bites, and the dehydration, but the Lycan virus had already taken. It was too late to reverse Maria's bites, and Thor would turn at the next full moon. He had already lost his job due to "Abandonment", which left him without insurance.
For over a year, Thor lived with his sister, practically unable to leave the house. His saving were quickly eaten up by medical debt, and he couldn't possibly hold down a job. With family support, Thor was eventually able to get back on his own two feet, although he was never really the same. Even without the changes to his body that being a werewolf brought, but also his ability to focus and spend time outside of the house. He had developed agoraphobia, and was too jumpy to handle being a first responder anymore. A friend from work had helped him get a new job as a front desk person in a hospital.
