Setting
Location
This plot takes place in the fictional town of Windfall. Windfall is a small town in the Pacific Northwest. It's nestled inside the hills, surrounded by deep woods. The closest town is three hours away by car, and on the other side of the hills. Windfall has a population of less than 10,000 people. In the center of the town is a gothic stone church. The church's spire can bee seen anywhere from inside the town.
Time Period
The time period can be ambiguous, or we can choose a time period while discussing the plot. Despite the time period, Windfall is very isolated. So even if it takes place in modern day, wifi and cellphone coverage would be spotty at best.
World Building Elements
This plot takes a lot of inspiration from the Catholic religion for it's setting. This plot is not meant to be a direct portrayal of Catholicism, but rather uses it as a base to build on. This is also not meant to be taken as offensive. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me.
Plot
Demetri is a righteous man. He's dedicated his entire life to God after all. Someone would be hard pressed to argue otherwise. When he was told to go to Windfall, a small town, surrounded by nothing but woods, he went willing. He took on the role of Pastor happily. He served the people of the town with humility. He had never been one to go astray. So when he suddenly started having nightmares, Demetri was at a loss.
Demetri did his best to keep these new nightmares a secret. It was easy at first. He lived alone, in a small room attached to the church. No one was around to hear him, no matter how many times he woke up screaming. But as the weeks went by, the nightmares became worse, and more frequent. Demetri couldn't sleep anymore. But he could live with that. He could lift up his suffering for those less fortunate than himself. He continued to pray, and work, doing his best not to worry his flock.
But the nightmares didn't stop. He was losing sleep, and losing weight. And then- the visions started. Demetri was seeing things while he was awake. These visions were worse than the nightmares. Images of blood, gore, and demons haunted his waking hours. Demetri was beginning to believe he was losing his mind. The sexual visions were the final straw. Demetri knew he was dealing with a spiritual affliction. He prayed more and more, regularly blessing himself with holy water, but the visions did not stop.
It was the day that Demetri finally broke down and wrote a letter to his bishop begging for help that the body was left on the church steps. It was a bloody and horrific scene. The townsfolk were shocked, who could do such a thing? And to their neighbor? Demetri recognized the scene from his dreams. Even as the police wheeled the body away, Demetri knew that he had predicted this event. There was an evil force in his town, and it wasn't going to stop with him.
Demetri had never been more relieved than he was the day the exorcist arrived. He was desperate. His pleas to the bishop had gone unanswered for months. Demetri's dreams, the dead animals, event the signs of the occult had all been brushed off as the young pastor reading too much into nothing. But a mutilated human victim was much harder to ignore.
